The Fixer

The Fixer, by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, is about sixteen-year-old Tess Kendrick who has a normal life, living in Montana with her grandfather, who is revealed to have Alzheimer's. She believed everything was perfect before her sister, Ivy Kendrick, stops by for a 'visit,' declaring that Tess must move to D.C. with her. It is later told that Ivy is the number one Fixer in Washington, to which she fixes problems that the capitol has (political problems, controversy, etc.). She, however, prioritizes her work over anything else. When Tess becomes involved, she finds herself tangled up analyzing her sister's problems, and she must balance both her life at school and her life before she goes too deep.
   I would recommend this book to anyone who likes plot twists and suspense, as well as Science Fiction or Political Dystopia. I did like this book, but I felt as if it dragged at times. Overall, though, The Fixer is a book I would also recommend to anyone when they can't find a book or need something to pass the time.

Stereotypes are not something a person wants to experience. They shove someone under a general umbrella about something associated with what they identify as, like gender/sexual identity or sexual orientation, or something they were raised up by, like their race and culture. These sort of things are unfair, and everyone in a particular race or culture either don't find it as fun to endure, or they live up to these stereotypes based on what society says about them. They either think, I'm associated with [insert stereotype here] so it must be true. I'll do what they expect me to do , or, this is not what [insert race/gender identity here] are like at all. I'll do what they won't expect me to do. By influencing stereotypes, we are only forcing them to behave they way we see them as and not what they see themselves as. This behavior is harming our society and only causing us to become more small-minded and believing what we put out there for everyone to see.

Scary Accomplishments

Something I definitely want to accomplish in the next few years that scares me is anything with speaking in public, like my feelings, or my opinions, or just in front of a crowd of people without the extreme fear of being judged. I'm not entirely certain why I feel like I'm going to be mortified if I did manage to work up the courage of facing it, but it's definitely something I would like to try. Another thing I would love to accomplish is trying out for a sport like track and field. I guess I just need to put myself out there, let myself break of the shell I've confined myself to, and give myself something to do in order to distract myself from the voices in my mind.
