Scary Accomplishments

Image
Something I definitely want to accomplish in the next few years that scares me is anything with speaking in public, like my feelings, or my opinions, or just in front of a crowd of people without the extreme fear of being judged. I'm not entirely certain why I feel like I'm going to be mortified if I did manage to work up the courage of facing it, but it's definitely something I would like to try. Another thing I would love to accomplish is trying out for a sport like track and field. I guess I just need to put myself out there, let myself break of the shell I've confined myself to, and give myself something to do in order to distract myself from the voices in my mind.

Dear Evan Hansen

Image
Dear Evan Hansen is a Teen Fiction/Romance book by Steven Levenson, with a musical of the same name by Pasek and Paul. It's about a high school senior Evan Hansen, who has extreme social anxiety, and often prefers not to put himself in which he could be judged. Over the summer before his final year in high school, it is revealed that he had broken his arm due to falling from a tree. He hears about the suicide of a boy named Conner Murphy, the brother of Zoe Murphy, who Evan has a crush on, but he can't bring himself to say it. In the wake of Conner's suicide, Evan finds himself creating a new identity when he decides to show that everyone is not alone, but ends up failing in the end when he begins to make the project about himself, despite him winning Zoe's trust and friendship. He's able to persevere through all of this by the end, despite his mishaps, and begins to accept himself. I would definitely recommend the book (and the musical) to anyone who connects de

Beginnings and Endings

Image
Well, it's almost the end of the school year, which means that in less than two weeks, I'll have graduated and now free to relax and enjoy the summer. I'm honestly extremely anxious whenever I think about graduating. At the beginning of the year, I was excited–I would be going to a new school, meet new people, and just have fun over there. Now, however, my emotions are starting to combine, and I'm having a difficult time organizing  my thoughts and focusing on only one thing. I guess it's because I don't really want to leave school now. Not because of the teachers–I'll miss them, definitely–but the fact that I won't see my friends for a long time, maybe only once or twice through my high school years, if I'm lucky. I only want to spend as much time as I can with them and just enjoy the last few weeks of school without getting overwhelmed.

Stereotypes

Image
Stereotypes are not something a person wants to experience. They shove someone under a general umbrella about something associated with what they identify as, like gender/sexual identity or sexual orientation, or something they were raised up by, like their race and culture. These sort of things are unfair, and everyone in a particular race or culture either don't find it as fun to endure, or they live up to these stereotypes based on what society says about them. They either think, I'm associated with [insert stereotype here] so it must be true. I'll do what they expect me to do , or, this is not what [insert race/gender identity here] are like at all. I'll do what they won't expect me to do. By influencing stereotypes, we are only forcing them to behave they way we see them as and not what they see themselves as. This behavior is harming our society and only causing us to become more small-minded and believing what we put out there for everyone to see.

The Fixer

The Fixer, by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, is about sixteen-year-old Tess Kendrick who has a normal life, living in Montana with her grandfather, who is revealed to have Alzheimer's. She believed everything was perfect before her sister, Ivy Kendrick, stops by for a 'visit,' declaring that Tess must move to D.C. with her. It is later told that Ivy is the number one Fixer in Washington, to which she fixes problems that the capitol has (political problems, controversy, etc.). She, however, prioritizes her work over anything else. When Tess becomes involved, she finds herself tangled up analyzing her sister's problems, and she must balance both her life at school and her life before she goes too deep.    I would recommend this book to anyone who likes plot twists and suspense, as well as Science Fiction or Political Dystopia. I did like this book, but I felt as if it dragged at times. Overall, though, The Fixer is a book I would also recommend to anyone when they can't fin

Spring

Image
What I like most about spring is the change in temperature, since we don't have to wear massive winter coats all the time. I also like the blooming flowers and trees, since they are preparing for the summer, and they just look so beautiful when they are almost fully developed . Allergies bug me the most about spring. Along with the change in temperature, the pollen, mold, and other particle count increases, thus leaving them vulnerable to the after effects of spring.

Final Stretch of Eigth Grade

Credit! I'm most excited about all the fun fields trips and incentives we're going to have in the last two weeks. I feel it is beneficial to have breaks after the long year of working as well as feel like we have worked enough to earn what's in store for us. I'm also incredibly excited for the fun projects we are going to do in class, since they spark my creativity and get me thinking about what's really going on with the world. For example, the essays that we were working on earlier in the second and third quarters helped me see the issues in the world from a different perspective. Critique! However, I don't really care for how many essays we have to do for all classes except for math. I understand they are preparing us for high school and all, but I feel as if they are not challenging my creativity and my passions, dreams, and interests. I understand that school can't change the entire course just because of one student having different beliefs or some

Alexander Hamilton

The biography of Alexander Hamilton analyzes the life of the Founding Father Alexander Hamilton’s life before he moved to America up until his death. It talks about how he served the Revolution, his relationships, his marriage and children, and the reason the duel that resulted in his death took place. I enjoyed this book because I had never even heard of Alexander Hamilton before the musical adaptation came around, and since then, I have loved to read it. I would recommend the biography (and the musical) to anyone who wants to learn more.

The Last seven Months of Anne Frank

The Last Seven Months of Anne Frank is about six women who were in the concentration camps or knew someone in in Holocaust. Most of them could distinguish  Anne Frank either personally or during the concentration camp. I loved this book at the time when I didn't know much about the Holocaust, and I was intrigued to learn more. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction or wants to learn more about the Holocaust.

Regret

One time I felt regret was when I got into a disagreement with my parents. This happened a few months ago, and it involved me and my parents. I remember we had gotten into a bit of an argument about how I should be more independent, and I tried to calm them down once they started yelling at me. That didn't work, and I felt terrible. If I could, I would go back and listen to them and not say anything that would upset them.

German Propaganda

The piece of propaganda I'm focusing on is about the blackout regulations in the 1940s, as the direct translation is, "The enemy sees your light! Black out!" The picture's intended audience is everyone under Hitler's rule. It's effective because it influences fear, as the people of Germany were afraid of the ones under Hitler's order, so they followed what and who they were supposed to. Blackout

Famous Celebrity

Image
If I had to choose one famous person to hang out with, it would be Veronica Roth because she is a huge inspiration to me. I would ask her about how she got her inspiration for the Divergent series and how she told such an amazing story. We would probably go to a cafe and talk about book ideas, as I would love to be a writer when I grow up. She also went to Northwestern University, and she is what sparked my interest to attending.

Happiness

Happiness is laughing and talking with friends at lunch Happiness is spending time outside, taking in the many sights Happiness is lounging on the couch with a good book Happiness is feeling the rush of water as you swim laps in the pool Happiness is listening to the tapping of buttons as you try furiously to beat the game Happiness is sitting at home with a soda in your hand and watching your favorite movie Happiness is laying on your bed talking with your best friend Happiness is spending time with your parents at a restaurant Happiness is cuddling up on your sofa with your family as you drift off to sleep Happiness is finally saying what you have been restraining yourself from saying for what seems like forever Happiness is saying the words, "I love you."

Super Bowl LI

The Super Bowl Commerical I am focusing on is the "We Accept" commerical. The message this commerical is trying to convey is that it doesn't matter what your beliefs are or who you love or where you came from. You are you, and no one can change that. This is important because today's society is so fixated on your religious beliefs, if you're LGBTQ, or the color of your skin, but when it comes down to it, that's not really important. They are trying to reach out to the world, saying that they are accepted, and the intended response is positive, that the people will band together now.

Advice

The advice I would give to Donald Trump is to listen to the American people and find a compromise that will work for everyone and not just him. He thinks that he can do what he wants because he's the president, but he doesn't have the authority to. He can implement the building of the wall and the immigration/travel ban, but the people of the US don't approve of it, and there are hundreds of military officers overseas, so he cannot just ban anyone from entering the country, especially those overseas for their jobs. In order to be the best president he can, he has to think of the people and what is best for them and not just himself.
