Blog 3: Theme
In Beastkeeper by Cat Hellisen, the main character Sarah witnessed her mother leave and her father slowly turning into a beast, met a boy named Alan in a place called Not-a-Forest, and found out she has grandparents when her father tells her she has to go with them.
The theme of Beastkeeper  is don’t let love take control of your life, because you will–metaphorically–turn into a beast view yourself differently. In the text it said, “Through the toes of the socks, her feet looked wrong, too flat and human, no good for running or hunting,, no good for padding so as falling feathers through the crackling leaves.” This quote shows that after Sarah fell in love, she started to turn into a “beast,” looking at herself as a different person.
